I feel better already!   I’m convinced the success coaches were correct about writing down your goals and seeing them dailyOf course, I decided to do it differently.

I choose to create a fantasy profile and resume of myself .   Right now, I’m viewing templates and outlines of resumes, fact sheets, online profiles, to compile a fantasy list

Here’s an example of a profile I’m working on.  The resume will take a bit more time, but I believe this mental and visual boost will keep me in the right direction towards my goals.

You are NOT a failure!

June 11th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized   Comments

I’m so excited!  I stumbled across this inspiring post from the Toilet Paper Entrepreneur site, which  gives 100+ reasons to overcome failure.  I missed the opportunity to send my opinion, so I’ll post it here!

My reason for overcoming failure:

Why not!   Embrace it and move on! Use it as your testimony! Redefine it. Never let failure define you,  and then reinvent yourself or your plan.

Here’s three inspiring suggestions from the TPE Community:

Failure Is A Result Not A Person

Failure is a result not a person; all success stories look like failures until they succeed.  Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the lightbulb. He persisted; you can, too. Believe in yourself, because what you believe determines what you achieve.  - Linda Caroll of Linda Caroll Design

Leave the Boohoo Box

“Yes you are right, you failed. Now if you’ll poke your head outside of your “boohoo box” you’ll see that no one else is looking at your box and you’ll also see that there are a lot of empty boohoo boxes left by people who dared, failed and dared again. Now lets dare again too.”  -  Gary Unger of Author “How To Be A Creative Genius (in five minutes or less)”

Alive and Have Both my Ears

When things seem bleak, I tell myself “hey Van Gogh never sold a painting until he died” #1 I am alive making money #2 I have both of my ears. Could be worse! -  Ellen Cagnassola of SweetSoaps

10 Ways To Fail In Life

May 27th, 2009 | Posted in Religion   Comments

So you want to be successful in life? Is that what you want? Avoid these and you’ll automatically be on the right track (provided you want to be successful)…

1. Mixing With Losers
High five, welcome to the losers’ club. Something about losers you should know: they like to ‘recruit’ new people and are very comfortable in their shoes. They don’t welcome changes.

2. Don’t Know What You Want
The most common goal I hear all of the time is, “I want to be rich”. I mean it’s fine with that generic goal but the problem is, how rich do you want to be? Or how rich is rich? Put it this way - the methods used to make a million and $3,000 are different. If you want to make a million, you better put in that level of commitment, bucko.

3. You Want Everything
It’s nice to have a lot of things but if you go chasing everything, you get nothing. Let me tell you why - you only have 24 hours a day and you’ve got to focus on your priorities.

4. Watching the “Secrets” Way Too Much
When you believe you can achieve your goal, you will take actions to actually achieve it but if you don’t understand this basic element and think LOA is some sort of miracle remedy, oh boy, you’re in for a big surprise for failure.

5. You Don’t Truly Know Why You Want Success
Without a solid reason, a compelling reason, where are you going to find the motivation and encouragement for you to overcome obstacles? You think it’s going to be fun ride to success? Then you haven’t been traveling - it’s a rocky road, my friend. Most people failed to achieve their goals because they never complete the journey– they give up half way (or at the beginning) because they cannot see the worth of accomplishments.

6. You Don’t Remember Your Roots
The thing I get most irritated about is people who achieved success and never felt gratitude towards those who have helped them. Is it very hard to say, ‘thank you’?  Remember this- it takes more than just you to achieve success, so don’t be a jerk.

7. You Think You’re Smart
The day you stop learning is the day you stop improving yourself. If you don’t want to fail in life, make you sure you stop acting as though you already know everything. The fact is, all successful people are people who continuously learn to be even more successful. They don’t stop.

8. You Listen To The Wrong People
I watched this funny movie called, “He Is Just Not That Into You” and it just reaffirmed what I’m about to tell you. At the beginning of the movie, it shows a clip of a boy pushing a girl in the playground because he somehow doesn’t like her. He thinks she smells like dog pooh. She cried and asked her mum why did the boy do that to her. And her mum replied, “It’s because boys do that to girls when they like you.” Do yourself a favor, don’t get wrong advice. It’ll stick in your brain and lead you to make stupid interpretations in life.

9. You Think Short Term
You’ll hear this happening often in many success stories – make a lot of money to lose it all. This probably because they became too comfortable and the other thing is, once you achieve success, you should ride on the wave when the momentum is there. When you think short term, you’re only going after the instant pleasure. You must learn to master ‘delay gratification’ so that you can enjoy your today’s labor.

10. You’re Blinded With What Is Important In Life
It’s not the money that you’re trying to get but what the money CAN DO FOR YOU. I know this topic is bigger than one sentence explanation but I guess you get the point. You’re a smart fella.

Gardening Eden - Christians & The Environment

April 20th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized   Comments

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. - Genesis 2:15

Gardening Eden is an excellent starter book for Christians who are torn between secular environmentalist and what God says about caring for the Earth.

The book is divided into two parts: The first area is filled with persuasion essays of why Christians should become better stewards of the Earth, and how their behavior affects creation.

Part two has 50 practical steps to becoming a better steward, categorized in areas of food, energy, transportation, and home.

What is Creation Care?

“God says we are caretakers of His creation.”

Why are Christians called to be stewards of the Earth?

“Our daily stewardhip of this planet is our down payment for our children’s children’s..”

Are there any scriptural references to support Christians and their concern from the environment, and God’s creations?

  • Psalm 24:1  The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
  • Romans 1:20  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
  • Psalm 104:31  May the glory of the LORD endure forever;  may the LORD rejoice in his works

Summary:

Before the snake, the apple, and the Ten Commandments, God created a garden, placed humans in it, and told them to take care of it.

“Spiritual environmentalism” did not start out as an oxymoron—it was an invitation. Yet today, many believe God’s original job description for humankind has been replaced by other worthier pursuits. So when did this simple instruction become so controversial? How does one sort through all the mixed messages? Is making the world a healthier place for the next generation really a responsibility—or even possible?

Gardening Eden is a new understanding of how the spiritual dimensions of life can find expression and renewal through caring for our incredible planet. Empowering, simple, and never polemical, Michael Abbaté outlines the Bible’s clear spiritual benefits of caring for creation, exploring new motivations and inspired ideas, and revealing the power of our basic connection to all people and living things through the growing interest in spiritual environmentalism.

Green living is no longer a fad—simple lifestyle solutions are now available to everyone. Gardening Eden shows readers how this shift transforms not only our world, but their very souls as they’re drawn into deeper harmony with the Creator. This book invites them to discover the powerful spiritual satisfaction of heeding the call to save our world.

Why WE want it NOW? (Part 1)

April 6th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized   Comments

I am part of the Facebook Generation. I was born on the edge of Generation X and grafted into Generation Y. And the complaints I hear from 40-somethings and mentors  about us are :

  • We have a sense of entitlement.
  • We don’t believe in paying our dues
  • We have no patience and want it now
  • We don’t have the capacity to “stick with it.”

Of course, I carry all of those traits “for better or worse,” and will give you a brief explanation to why I behave this way:

Let’s get it clear!  Buying into the American Dream of my parents generation isn’t the same as buying into the American Dream of my generation.  In addition to my “day job,” I choose to use wisdom of others and creativity to set up my life freelance and automatic.  I never bought into Social Security, but I neither have the security of a “job” nor a pension to accept 15-30 years in one place.

I have parents to go back to, but I don’t have parents to fall back on, because I will possibly have to take care of my parents.   Actually, I am assisting a parent and relatives, which leads me to believe I HAVE PAID MY DUES. Why pay it again with you?  The hard knocks of my generation have shortened my perception of “getting experience” and paying dues. Why do you think we voted for Obama? Years of experience equals corrupted servitude.

I saw my parents generation do it wrong. I saw family members giving their lives and identities over to companies and have their dreams shattered. I see my co-workers surviving on anti-depressants because they’re slaves to jobs— they haven’t found financial avenues to match their passion.  Pop culture and modern day ministries have branded  “PASSION” and “MISSION”  as the forefront virtues to follow. Why not?

I WANT IT NOW because I was told I DID NOT HAVE A FUTURE, so it’s important to achieve quickly while the possibility exists. I’ve heard these messages from the media and their anticipation of WWIII and End Time Ministries, environmentalists, etcetera.

MY SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT doesn’t come from being a brat, but it comes from knowing the “rug” can be snatched from under my feet any day. My decision to take charge of my career and refuse to stay loyal to “jobs” comes from observing the anxiety, nervous breakdowns, and early deaths of loved ones.

I will work hard, and work wholeheartedly as unto the Lord, but I will not cast my pearls to swine. And yes, I do need to feel special and to receive compliments—of course, I was told otherwise by you-know-who. I need to know that I’m appreciated and loved because I’m hungry and willing to work.

Scriptures tells us to  get an understanding.  I hope you understand, and your wisdom can utilize my strengths and help cut back on my faults.

Amish Love

May 28th, 2009 | Posted in Uncategorized   Comments

What’s all the hubbub about Amish fiction? Major media outlets like Time and ABC Nightline are covering it, and authors like Cindy Woodsmall are making the New York Times bestseller list regularly. What makes these books so interesting?

Check out the recent ABC Nightline piece here (http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/story?id=7676659&page=1) about Cindy and her titles When the Heart Cries, When the Morning Comes, and When the Soul Mends. It’s an intriguing look at Amish culture and the time Cindy has spent with Amish friends.

And don’t forget that Cindy’s new book The Hope of Refuge hits store shelves August 11, and is available for preorder now.
